Identify areas for strategic hiring of faculty to support research initiatives. This item supports sub-objective I1Annual Faculty Complement Planning Process
An internationally acclaimed research institution must bring together the best scholars from around the world to pursue path-breaking research in their disciplines and beyond. UTM is committed to diversity in scholarship and to supporting world-class research that both enriches and bridges disciplines.
Every year, the UTM Office of the Dean, in collaboration with our esteemed academic units, identifies priority areas for strategic hiring as part of our faculty complement planning process. Academic units are encouraged to submit proposals for positions that span disciplinary boundaries in support of both creative teaching and intellectually rigorous path-breaking research at UTM. Academic units are provided access to training and divisional data tools annually that assist them in their complement planning.

- We have engaged the services of a consultant, who has interviewed researchers across the range of disciplines in order to gauge their impressions and image of the UTM campus with respect to 'Research.'
- The consultant has submitted a first draft of a narrative that defines an image/brand to be used as a foundation for the OVPR's research communication strategy. That first draft is currently under review and will be clarified and finalized by the end of 2018.
- In January-February 2019, the consultant will work with the OVPR team to build a comprehensive communications strategy that maximizes the defined narrative and leverages the available resources.
